The Aspire Independent Living Advisors (AILAs) undertook training last week to help
them facilitate conversations with patients with spinal cord injury.
The training began with a focus on the Independent Living Advisors' knowledge of Aspire. All the AILAs were given a scenario to role play, which was filmed. The videos were then played back to the group to be reviewed. The AILAs found it a very useful exercise as it highlighted a few gaps but also reconfirmed their knowledge and interview techniques.
There will be further training in April on the art of asking questions, the difference between open and closed questions and how to allow patients the space to open up without fear of being judged.
Aspire would like to thank Corporate Supporter Potter Rees for the use of their boardroom and their fantastic hospitality for the training day in Manchester. It was a great opportunity for the staff at Potter Rees to meet the three Aspire Independent Living Advisors who they support.
Helen Shaw, Senior Litigation Manager at Potter Rees said, "I was really impressed by the enthusiasm and dedication of all the Aspire Independent Living Advisors, who are a great credit to Aspire."
Aspire would also like to thank Shoosmiths, who support Stanmore and Stoke Mandeville's AILA, for their hospitality and the use of their facilities for the training day in Reading.
