Swimming Pool
Another Aspire Success Story
Jamie was involved eight years ago in a motorbike accident, resulting in severe neurological injuries. His mobility is aided by a wheelchair and the use of a standing frame with hip-support. He lives independently, supported by a team of care workers.
As part of Jamie’s rehabilitation, he has begun to visit the Aspire pool to begin 1-2-1 lessons with senior instructor Julie Fry. Within four weeks of starting, he has learnt to float without the use of floats. He can stand alone in the water and walk to the side of the pool unaided. The buoyancy of the water allows him to extend his arms above his head – something he cannot even achieve out of the water!
Jamie can put a smile on anyone’s face – not least when Julie gets Jamie to blow bubbles in the water from a standing position in shoulder depth water! This helps him to extend and strengthen the muscles in the neck, back and shoulder area.
Julie is confident that she can have Jamie swimming on his own in the next few weeks.
