The annual London Marathon is taking place this Sunday, 17th April, and Aspire is delighted to have 17 runners and 2 wheelchair racers taking part. They will be pounding the streets of London and burning some rubber to raise much-needed funds for Aspire as well as raising awareness of the vital work that the charity does in supporting people with spinal cord injuries from injury to independence.
The Aspire Marathon Team is hoping to raise £30,000 for the charity and is halfway to reaching their target. Our very own Events Fundraiser, Andrew Ogierman, is one of our runners and this will be the third marathon for Aspire, in as many months, for Clair Nicholls, who completed the Brighton Marathon last weekend and the Malta Marathon in February.
One of our wheelchair racers, Stephen Lightbown, is excited to be taking part in his first ever London Marathon and said, “As someone who has sustained a spinal cord injury I wanted to say thanks to all the runners for choosing Aspire. If at any stage it starts to feel tough please remember the great thing you have chosen to do by raising money for this great charity. They really do wonderful things and those things make people's lives that little bit easier.”
Aspire wishes all our runners - Andrew, Jan, Danny, Clair, Elizabeth, Stephen, Selby, Kevin, Su, Lianne, Jan, Jackie, Anne, Marcus, Matt and Sophie and wheelchair racers- Bret and Stephen - all the best on the day. We hope the weather and conditions will be kind!
Aspire, together with Back Up, will be cheering them on at the 17 and a half mile mark so look out for the Aspire balloons and come and join us in for a fun-filled and exciting day. For further information contact Andrew Ogierman on 020 8420 8951 or Andrew.ogierman@aspire.org.uk
