Joshua tackles the Channel for Aspire
Eight year old Joshua tackled the Aspire Channel Swim for the first time last year and, having sent in all his fundraising money, we’re delighted to award him our April Fundraiser of the Month title. But Joshua wasn’t just happy with taking on the challenge and getting friends and family to sponsor him and so decided to become something of a media star too.
With the help of his mum, Joshua filmed some of his swimming sessions and his thoughts on the challenge and sent the footage in to Channel 5; a few weeks later, his film was featured on 5 News and he was quickly in demand from journalists wanting him to give interviews to local newspapers!
While Joshua might prefer to be out swimming the oceans, he’s already planning on taking on the Aspire Channel Swim 2008:
I really enjoyed swimming for Aspire. It was hard work and sometimes a bit boring because I was only swimming in a swimming pool. If I was swimming in the real sea I might have seen a whale or a submarine or something.
When I had finished I felt very proud because I managed to raise some money that will help people with spinal injuries.
I really want to swim again for Aspire this year and my brother will swim with me as well so I hope we can raise even more money.
