Make Mine a Double
Most of you will no doubt have heard of a triathlon, and probably ‘Ironman’, but you may not have heard of Double Ironman. In distance terms it is a 4.8 mile swim, followed by a 224 mile bike ride, and finished off with 52 miles of running. And, just to make it a little harder there are cut off times if you don’t reach certain points in a certain time. Duncan Nottingham took on this challenge in August all in aid of Aspire.
What makes Duncan’s participation in the recent Double Ironman UK Championships even more incredible is that in March 2006 whilst cycling home from work he was in a near fatal crash, breaking 5 vertebrae in his neck and 3 in his back along with numerous other injuries and broken bones. Doctors were amazed he survived the crash, but were even more surprised he completed a Half Ironman just 7 months later. Duncan realises just how lucky he has been.
Everyone at Aspire feels he truly deserves the title Fundraiser of the Month purely for completing this amazing feat and setting himself the challenge of raising £5,000. Not surprisingly for someone so determined he is well on the way to achieving his fundraising target after completing the Double Ironman in 32 hours 26 minutes. No one here is asking what he plans to do next?
Do you want to get involved? Don’t worry, you don’t have to emulate Duncan to support Aspire. For further details of challenges ranging from 5k and upwards email Andrew now.
