Barclays and Aspire

When the Barclays Treasury Team heard that we were due to open a new Aspire house, they jumped at the chance to fundraise for us. As John Levison, head of the team remembers, their week long challenge was tough but incredibly rewarding:

100 members of the Team organised a virtual - 'Treasury Ironman' - triathlon challenge to raise money to adapt one of the new Aspire homes.  Five teams on five consecutive days each had to row the distance of the University Boat Race, cycle the distance of London - Brighton (and back) and run the distance of a Marathon - all consecutively and in the foyer of our office in central London!  Our challenge was to raise £14,000 and we smashed that by raising a whopping £27,200.  We were driven to go that extra mile by the amazing and inspiring Paula Craig who came to talk to us about her experiences of spinal cord injury; what a way to be motivated!

On hand to offer advice, support and encouragement were the Aspire Fundraising Team, who made sure that we stayed on track, through the long planning stages and throughout the week long challenge.  It was a great way to get all members of the team involved as even the less active ones got on the exercise bike to do a couple of miles!

Having raised the money, the Barclays Treasury Team will be able to see for themselves that it's put to good use:

We will soon be attending the opening of the Barclays Treasury Aspire House in Southend on Sea and are very proud of our achievements.
