Great day at the Great North
The Aspire team at the Great North Run on October 5th comprised the usual mix of first time half marathon runners and old hands. Among them was a team of 8 from Right Directions, organised by Team Captain Caroline Constantine.
Caroline saw the Great North Run as the perfect opportunity not only to raise funds for Aspire but also as a great way to build team spirit. Many of the team were Great North debutants who took to training and fundraising with enthusiasm and commitment.
On a warm and sunny autumn day the team took the somewhat hilly course in their stride and although one of them had to drop out through injury part way round, the rest all completed in very respectable times and are now looking to further half marathons around the UK. Just as importantly, thanks to the generosity of sponsors they expect to raise around £3,000 for Aspire.
The 2009 Great North Run – which Aspire will again have guaranteed places for – will take place on Sunday 4th October.
