Fundraiser of the Month
Ain't No Mountain High Enough
Recently returned from a successful ascent of Kilimanjaro our Fundraiser of the month for October is James Jacobs. At over four times the height of Ben Nevis and with greatly reduced oxygen levels at the summit, the mountain presents many challenges all of which James took in his stride.
James has also worked incredibly hard over the last few months raising funds for his expedition. In reaching his target of £3,500 James has had huge support from family and friends and has arranged car washes and a football tournament, amongst other events. He recognised from the moment he took on the challenge that fundraising was just as important as the climb itself.
James describes the final walk to the summit as ‘The hardest walk ever, starting in the freezing cold, pitch black of night. My water froze and every step left me out of breath, all I wanted to do was sleep.’ Luckily he didn’t sleep and once the sun came up things got a little easier. ‘Reaching the summit is one of the greatest things I have ever achieved.’
Since James has returned, a further Aspire supporter, Tom Rees, has also reached the summit of Kilimanjaro. Overseas trips are proving incredibly popular and space is filling fast for 2010 on Kilimanjaro and other expeditions. If you would like to follow in the footsteps of James and Tom e-mail Andrew or give him a call on 020 8420 8951.
