Running for Aspire

Lucy Cooke and Fiona Kinghorn enjoyed a rare sunny day as they took to the paths of Windsor Great Park on September 21st for their first half marathon. Both had trained hard throughout the summer and thoroughly enjoyed the race, cheered on by exceptionally large crowds.

The girls chose to run the Windsor Half Marathon as it was close to home and provided just the right level of challenge. Friends and family were able to go along and support them on the day. Lucy and Fiona ran very good times on the hilly course and both exceeded their fundraising expectations, each raising over £500.

Fiona says, After all the training and effort I wanted to raise money for a charity that made a real difference to people's lives. I thought about my life and how much I value my independence and a quick search on the internet brought up the Aspire webpage. I knew immediately this was the charity I wanted to raise money for. The support and help Aspire offer people who have experienced such a devastating event in their lives really inspired me.

And Lucy adds, Signing up for the Windsor Half Marathon seemed like a good idea at the time, but I soon realised I had no idea what I'd let myself in for.  Raising sponsorship for Aspire was the added incentive I needed to keep training hard, and it was all the more rewarding to cross the finish line (just about) in one piece, knowing that the money I'd raised was going to a great cause.
