Congratulations to Aspire’s very own Joe Gilbert, Maintenance Manager, for being selected as a London 2012 Olympic Torchbearer. Joe was nominated by Director of Operations Tasha Webster for his commitment to wheelchair basketball.

Joe first came across Aspire in 1989 when he was playing Wheelchair Basketball for Great Britain. Aspire approached Joe to set up a team and Aspire Force was born, which is still going strong over 20 years later!

Joe has been employed at Aspire since 1994 and regularly provides coaching sessions to schools, colleges and corporate groups.

Brian Carlin, Aspire Chief Executive, says “We are immensely proud of Joe and we can’t wait to see him carrying the Olympic 2012 torch and representing people with spinal cord injuries all over the UK.” Joe will be carrying the torch between Reading and Salisbury so, if you are in the area be sure to give him a wave!
