The Shadow Minister for Disabled People, Anne McGuire, visited Aspire yesterday to catch up on the work that we’ve been doing since she was last here. It was a busy day at the Centre, with our Sports Development Team running a Sports Day for local schools and giving disabled children the chance to take part in activities and Paralympic sports that are not usually available to them.

Some of our recent Instructability graduates were also in, having team photos taken ready for their role in the forthcoming Paralympic Torch relay. The Shadow Minister chatted to Fiona and Aruna about the Programme and the employment and volunteering opportunities it has created for them since they qualified as fitness instructors.

There was also plenty of time to discuss a variety of wider policy issues that Aspire is currently concerned about – we’re looking forward to working with the Shadow Minister on these in the coming months, particularly around social care and wheelchair provision.
