Aspire would like to thank outgoing Chairman Peter Stanford for the twenty years he has been a Trustee and Chairman of the charity. Throughout this time, Peter has seen the charity grow and grow, from the opening of the Aspire National Training Centre in 1998 to the growth of Aspire's Assistive Technology programme in 9 of the 11 Spinal Injury Centres across the country to the establishment of the Aspire Professor of Disability and Technology at University College London.
Peter says, "All good things, as they say, must come to an end. Twenty years is long enough and I need to give someone else a turn. And so, with enormous faith in the future of this remarkable charity, I am delighted to hand the reigns over to David Edwards."
David, pictured at the Aspire Sports Quiz Dinner in London, officially became Chairman of Aspire on Wednesday 21st September. David has been a Trustee of Aspire for six years and says, "I will be assuming the Chair at a time when the government will be looking to cut costs and services and inevitably charities will increasingly be called upon to meet the needs of people in need. To this end, I will be recruiting fresh blood to strengthen the Trustee Board and will work towards achieving a greater spirit of cooperation between all disability charities to ensure that the needs of disabled people are met."
Aspire would also like to welcome four new Trustees: Saroj Patel, Matt King, Simon Roulstone and Emily Campbell.
