Fiona Forsyth completed Instructability Pilot CourseInstructability is a joint initiative from Aspire and YMCA Fitness Industry Training (YMCAfit), which proactively supports and trains those with disabilities to hopefully secure employment in the fitness and leisure sectors.  It is hoped that this will help tackle the massive under-representation and the prejudice which people with disabilities who work in the health and fitness sector still face.

A pilot programme took place between October and December last year and the success of the Instructability pilot was notable. Seven out of the nine participants achieved a Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification and have completed a six week work placement. Four have already been offered paid employment as a result of their performance during placement. The Instructability programme was shortlisted for a PRO-ACTIVE London Awards for Sport & Physical Activity in the category ‘Project of the Year’.

Following on from the success of the pilot, funding has been secured from the National Skills Academy for the next course, which started today (Monday 23rdMay) with 11 participants enrolled.

If you would like to put your name down to attend the next course, email Tasha or call 020 8420 6716.
