Tuesday 29th March
Dorothy Whorrall, an Aspire Volunteer IT Trainer at Southport Spinal Injury Centre, has won a Pride Award for her services in the category ‘Volunteer Unsung Hero’.

Tuesday 29th March 

Aspire were invited by the Labour Party to their Fresh Ideas event. Our Chief Executive Brian Carlin and Policy and Research Officer Krupesh Hirani went to Nottingham and spoke with members of the Shadow Cabinet on a range of issues that affect people who have been paralysed by spinal cord injury.

Monday 21st March

I have recently joined Aspire as Communications Manager and was invited, along with the Aspire Channel Swim Manager, Rob Lawrenson, to attend Friends and Relatives Day at Stoke Mandeville Hospital on Friday 11th March.

Friday 11th March

Following a successful pilot Aspire is delighted to have secured funding to run a second Instruct Ability course.  The funding from the Mayors Sports Legacy Fund will train ten disabled people through YMCAFit as fitness instructors.

Friday 25th February

Ask someone to think of a TV character who’s been paralysed by a spinal cord injury and the chances are you’ll get either Detective Ironside or Brian Potter from Phoenix Nights as your answer. It’s a fairly safe bet because there’s not exactly a huge choice. So whilst we’re not all huge soap fans at Aspire, we were impressed when Emmerdale took what must have been the difficult decision to run a storyline involving give one of their characters, Jackson, sustaining a spinal injury. However, this week rumours have emerged about a controversial storyline involving Jackson.

Wednesday 23rd February

Funded by 'Sports Unlimited' and Capital Radio's 'Help a London Child', on Thursday 17th February, the Aspire National Training Centre was at full capacity with 120 young students of varying abilities all taking part in our Multi Sports4All day.

Thursday 17th February

Aspire has submitted a response to the Government’s paper on Disability Living Allowance Reform. The proposed reforms would replace the Disability Living Allowance with a new Personal Independence Payment.

Tuesday 15th February

ISG is putting pedal power to the test in a gruelling charity cycle ride from Manchester to London. “ISG Link the Velodromes” will cover over 200 miles in just over two days. A select group of riders from the main contractor will be joined by plucky clients to complete the challenge.

Wednesday 9th February
On New Year’s Day 2010, 21-year old Philip Pain fell from his hotel balcony in Mexico. He was flown back to the UK early last year, and spent months in hospital going through his rehabilitation. When his stint in hospital was over and he was ready to get on with his life, he faced further setback – where he was going to live.

Monday 1st February
The Aspire Human Needs Fund is there to help people with spinal injuries purchase the equipment they need to be independent. For Stuart, the grant Aspire gave him ultimately meant that he and his young family can do things together again.

Friday 7th January
With 2011 less than a week old, Aspire is delighted to announce the launch of two brand new open water swimming challenges to give everyone something to look forward to in the summer.
