New Independent Living Advisor joins Aspire

James Drennan has just become the fourth member of the Aspire Independent Living Team. He will be based at the Spinal Injury Centre in Salisbury and, like his colleagues, will be providing support and advice to those who have recently been injured.

James, Aspire Independent Living Advisor

Independent Living Advisors make weekly visits to their designated Spinal Centre, building up a strong rapport with both staff and patients. Part of their role is to ensure that people know all about Aspire’s other services and can get the assistance they need from them. But they also provide information on everything from benefit applications to debt management, calling on their own personal experiences or signposting patients in the right direction. The end result is that the patients, once they leave hospital, are ready to live independently. For James, this is what makes the role so important:

Obviously I’m excited about starting at Aspire, and I’m looking forward to meeting the new patients in Salisbury. Having access to an independent living advisor is such a useful resource and it will be great to know that I’m helping make a difference to the lives of the people I’m working with.

We’re currently looking for more people to become Independent Living Advisors so that every Spinal Injuries Centre has a dedicated member of Aspire staff. If you would like to know more about joining our Independent Living Team at your local hospital, please look at the job session on the Aspire website.
