Another Successful Aspire Cricket Day

August 2007

The famous Bunbury Celebrity Cricket Team took on an Aspire-Saracen's Rugby XI at the Mill Hill School in aid of Aspire. With the sun putting in a rare summer appearance, spectators were treated to a great day out with good food, family entertainments and quality cricket all on offer.

Those that joined us in the hospitality tent enjoyed a fantastic lunch before raising almost £10,000 through an auction for items including a signed England cricket bat. Outside, picnicking families were making the most of the sun with cold beers for the adults, face-painting and a bouncy castle for the children and ice-creams all round!

When the game started, famous faces including Harry Judd from McFly, swimmer Mark Foster and newsreader Mark Austin demonstrated their cricketing skills as they batted against the rugby boys. Saracens did well and kept the score down, promising a competitive chase after tea. Ultimately, though, the Bunbury Team prevailed, thanks in no small way to an awesome double hatrick in just 7 balls from former county player Darren Cousins.

Thanks, as always, go to David English and Nigel Wray for doing so much to ensure that this great day out was so much fun for everyone who came along. And, of course, all those who had fun were also raising much need funds for Aspire, ensuring that we can take more people from injury to independence. We look forward to seeing you all there next year!
