Aspire launches new house in Northampton

The latest addition to the Aspire Housing Programme was opened last week in Northampton by local MP Sally Keeble.

Sally Keeble MP, Brian Carlin and Jim Patman talk to Aspire's first Northampton tennant, David

The house, provided in conjunction with East Midlands Housing Association, will be used by local people who have left a specialist spinal injury hospital and need a place to live while they carry out adaptations to their own property or look for a new home. Without Aspire, they would be forced to remain in hospital or live in a totally unsuitable property that would deny them their independence.

David is our first Northampton tennant and is looking forward to the independence that comes with being out of hospital and having his own place again - his plans for the first weekend involved the garden and a big barbeque!

MP Sally Keeble was impressed with the bungalow and the design that meant achieving such a high level of accessibility hadn't compromised the overall feel of the home. She, like Aspire, would like to see many of the accessible features used as standard whenever new houses are being built.
