Latest Aspire House opens in Southend

November 2007

Aspire's Housing Programme continues to expand - the latest addition to our network was opened in Southend this month and our first tenant, Steve, is already enjoying being able to call it home.

The house, which we've provided in conjunction with Estuary Housing Association, was opened by Aspire's Chief Exectuive Brian Carlin and local MP James Duddridge. We were also delighted to welcome representatives from Barclays and the Rosca Trust who provided the funding needed to adapt and equip the house.

Having the house has meant that Steve could get out of hospital and live independently while he's searching for a permanent place to live. The alternative would have been a longer stay in hospital or a move to a care home, neither of which are satisfactory options. When Steve does move on, the house will welcome a new tenant and over the years will ensure that many more individuals from Essex are spared the prospect of having to make do with inadequate housing when they first leave hospital.

As Steve says, "It's great to get out of hospital and be living independently again. Although I know I'm only going to be here a short while, it's been perfect for my confidence and, with everything in place here, I've been able to put all my energy into looking for a permanent home."
