On Friday 6th January, representatives from Clyde & Co in Manchester travelled to the Aspire Leisure Centre to try out wheelchair basketball to raise funds for Aspire.  They were instructed by Aspire’s Joe Gilbert to learn how to manoeuvre in a wheelchair and how to play the game, following which they split into two teams to battle against each other.

Clyde & Co has been supporting Aspire since 2015, when they took part in a wheelchair challenge to mark International Day for People with Disabilities, and last November they attended the Aspire Manchester Sports Quiz Dinner.

Sophia Murphy, Clyde & Co, says, “All ten of us from the Manchester office of Clyde & Co had a wonderful time at Aspire and learnt first-hand how difficult it is for people with spinal cord injuries who need to use a wheelchair. It was truly inspiring to see the work that Aspire does to help people in such circumstances and the benefit it has on their lives. We were taught, at a very basic level, how to play wheelchair basketball and then took part in a (slightly competitive!) inter-team game.  It was such great fun and it is wonderful to see so many sports and opportunities open to those with spinal cord injuries and other disabilities. The facilities at the Aspire Leisure Centre are incredible and we are hoping to raise money to help Aspire's excellent ongoing work.  Thanks from all of us for hosting us and showing us around.”

Brian Carlin, Aspire CEO, says, “We are extremely grateful for the support that Clyde & Co has given to Aspire over the last couple of years to help us support people with Spinal Cord Injury.  We offer a variety of opportunities for companies who would like to get involved with us, from taking on challenges such as cycling, swimming and running, to holding cake sales and raffles or attending our annual Sports Quiz Dinners in London and Manchester.”
