At a truly legendary dinner last week, a unique gathering of drivers from the famous Le Mans 24 Hour Race - with a huge 111 race participations and six winners between them - came together in aid of charities Hope for Tomorrow and Aspire.

The event, which took place at The Hurlingham Club, London on Wednesday 18^th May, was hosted by sports presenter and journalist Jonathan Legard. During the evening, motor racing journalist Simon Taylor interviewed drivers including Patrons David Richards CBE, Ross Brawn OBE, five-times race winner Derek Bell MBE and Martin Brundle, who entertained with inspirational, witty and surprising anecdotes from the world of Le Mans.

Other drivers present included, David Brabham, Jamie Chadwick, Norman Dewis, Marino Franchitti, Jackie Oliver, (who won with sponsors Ford in 1969), David Piper, Jody Scheckter, Guy Smith and Andy Wallace, along with motoring VIPs Ross Brawn and Wayne Gardner. At 17 years old, Jamie Chadwick was the youngest driver present, while Norman Dewis was the oldest at 95 years old.

Hope for Tomorrow's founder, Christine Mills, MBE, enjoyed a career involved in motor racing alongside her husband David, in whose name she founded her cancer charity. Hope for Tomorrow brings cancer treatment closer to patients via its unique Mobile Chemotherapy Units, operated in partnership with the NHS.

Ford, which is returning to Le Mans 50 years after the famous 1-2-3 in 1966, showcased its new Ford GT car, racing in Le Mans 2016, as well as the Ford Road car, unseen before in the UK. The event also showcased a number of iconic Le Mans Cars outside The Hurlingham Club and in the glass-domed Palm Court and Orangery. The cars originated from the early 1930s to present day and included Bentley, Ferrari, Porsche 962 and Aston Martin, among many others.

A ‘money can't buy' motor-racing related live auction hosted by Rob Hubbard from Bonhams raised over £65,000 for the two charities. Vintage footage of Le Mans races ran throughout the evening.
