Olympic Torchbearer

Joe and the Aspire teamOn Wednesday 11thJuly, Joe Gilbert from the Aspire National Training Centre had the honour of carrying the Olympic Torch as part of the relay in Reading.

Joe was nominated by Director of Operations, Tasha Webster, who has known Joe for over 15 years.  His nomination story can be viewed here.

On the day, Joe was accompanied by wife Debbie and extended family as well as Tasha, Gemma and Kim from Aspire.  Joe's moment to shine is available to watch on the BBC torch cam (play from approximately 8.07am).  If you look closely, you can see the Aspire supporters running along with him!

Our fantastic customers at the Aspire National Training Centre raised the money required for Joe to keep his torch and already Joe is sharing his torch with the local community.  So far he has been to five local schools; popped into an aquafit class; attended a school sports day; and met the Deputy Mayor of Harrow Nana Asante and Shadow Minister for Disabled People the Rt Hon Anne McGuire.
