Schwinn at Aspire

First Disabled Schwinn Instructor

A member of the Aspire Fitness team has become the first disabled person to qualify as a Schwinn Instructor - proof again, that Aspire leads the way when it comes to inclusive fitness.

Indoor cycling is a simple yet efficient workout, in a non-intimidating and fun group setting. Over the past decade, indoor cycling has made its mark as an activity that's here to stay.

More than 275,000 Schwinn bikes are now ridden in thousands of clubs around the world, making indoor cycling an established “must-have” in health clubs everywhere.

Aspire members expressed an interest in having the opportunity to take part in indoor cycling classes and so we recently purchased 11 Schwinn bikes for the National Training Centre in Stanmore. As with all Aspire activities, inclusion is a priority for us and Graham Burns, a full time Fitness Instructor at Aspire, joined the training course to look at opportunities for inclusion.

Graham has worked at Aspire for over 13 years and as a disabled person himself and a fitness instructor he was keen to assess the opportunities for as many disabled people as possible to join the new classes. Schwinn Master Trainer Stefano Ruggeri soon realised there was no reason for Graham not to complete the course and become an instructor himself.

Graham used a buddy to demonstrate as he led the training classes and passed the examination with flying colours!

Graham is the first disabled person to become a Schwinn Cycling Instructor and will soon be instructing his own classes at Aspire National Training Centre. You can sign up to take part in the classes by booking at reception.
