Aspire is working in partnership with Loughborough University. Together, we’ll be trying to find out what it’s like to live in a nursing home and to understand what being in a home means for those that are there.

We already know that far too many people with spinal cord injuries live in nursing homes because there simply isn’t an alternative. Aspire have long been calling for more accessible homes to be built and for Local Authorities to stop seeing care homes as a viable solution for anyone who uses a wheelchair. With your help, we can make our argument even stronger and hopefully ensure more people have the chance to live where they want and not where they are told they have to.

Over the coming months, researchers from Loughborough University would like to interview people with spinal cord injuries who are living in nursing homes. The interviews would be carried out face to face at the home. Naturally, anyone who takes part is free to decline to answer any question, or to pull out of the research completely at any stage. No one will be identified in the final reports. The information that we get from these interviews will be invaluable in our work.
