The UN Committee on the Rights of People with Disability has published the conclusions of its inquiry into the UK government’s implementation of the Convention on the rights of People with Disability.

It finds that the Government has not implemented the rights of disabled people across many of the articles contained within the Convention.  The UK government has been found to have insufficiently implemented the Convention across all policy areas; demonstrated a lack of understanding and application of the human rights model of disability; failed to implement a comprehensive cross-cutting review of policies and legislation in order to harmonise with the Convention; introduced laws that discriminate against disabled people and failed to provide information about how disabled people will be protected from negative impacts of Brexit.

It is difficult to see how Britain can still claim to be a world leader in disability rights in light of these findings.
