On 26^th February Andy Shipley, Policy Manager at Aspire, will be taking on the ultimate white knuckle challenge as part of a four man bobsleigh team, sliding down the track at Innsbruck. 

He was inspired to take on this challenge after 'The Last Leg's' Alex Brooker became the first disabled man in history to take part in the double luge - the most dangerous of Winter Olympic sports - as well as Nash & Dixon, the only British bobsled team to have won a gold medal back in 1964.

Andy says, “Although I am visually impaired, I'm a bit disappointed they're not letting me be the pilot, but with Para Bobsleigh not being included in the Winter Paralympics until 2022 at the earliest, this could be my chance to stake my claim for a place on the team!

“Whilst I will be more protected than Alex was on his luge (basically a tea-tray on skates!), it will not be easy - there are 18 turns on the 1km track and I am told that the sled can reach speeds of 70mph!

“I am excited to be taking on this challenge and would be thrilled if by doing this I am also able to raise funds to help Aspire support people with Spinal Cord Injury.”
