From injury to a profiling bed My accident was hard. It happened when I was a teenager, just 16, which was a really difficult time. I was a street dancer back then, part of a group that used to perform in different places. I loved it, and I was good at it. We’re a very close-knit family, so my injury affected everyone, not just me. I’ve known about Aspire for a long time, but the first time I reached out for help was for the grant. I’d tried everything - asked friends, family - but no one could help. This was my last resort, and I was honestly surprised by how quick the process was. Without the profiling bed, I would’ve spent a lot more time stuck in bed, and transferring in and out of it would have been really difficult. The old bed was so low that my carers were hurting their backs during transfers. The profiling feature on the bed reduces the strain on their backs and shoulders significantly, lowering the risk of injury. I was ecstatic when I found out we had all the funding for the repair. Living with a spinal cord injury takes a team effort, and my profiling bed is a crucial member of that team. It plays a vital role in maintaining both my independence and my carers’ well-being, so getting it repaired was truly life-changing. Grants Personal stories How we help Manage Cookie Preferences
