Lerona was involved in a car accident when she was just 5 years old which left her with life-changing, permanent spinal cord injuries.  She has never let her spinal cord injury stop her from doing anything, including completing a half marathon and a 10k, but she is now taking on her biggest challenge – handcycling from London to Amsterdam, a total of 136 miles! 

Together with her team, Lerona has already raised over £34,000 but is determined to reach £40,000 to enable Aspire to help people who have been paralysed by spinal cord injuries.  It is a huge challenge, but Lerona is determined and has been training hard at the Aspire Leisure Centre.  She will be joined on the ride by family and friends but there are a couple of places available to join them for this fantastic challenge. 

The team will set off from Trafalgar Square in London, riders will head out of the capital towards Harwich, travelling through the country roads of Essex.  Whilst smooth roads will allow you to pick up the pace, the terrain is both undulating and challenging, but don't worry, there will be refreshment stops along the way!

After completing the 83 miles from London to Harwich, you will get the overnight ferry to Holland.  The ferry has restaurants, bars, a cinema and WiFi onboard and the cabins have en-suite showers, towels and bedding provided.

Arriving at the Hook of Holland the next morning, you will embark on a coastal ride, before heading into the heart of Holland.  After lunch in Katwijk, you will complete the final 30 miles to Amsterdam.

You have the option of your bike being transported back to Hertfordshire for collection during the week, allowing you the freedom to explore the streets, canals and parks of the vibrant city at your leisure.

There is no minimum sponsorship requirement, just a request to raise as much as you can!

* Please note: the cost of the challenge does not include accommodation in Amsterdam or your return travel to the UK.

All money raised, in excess of the cost of equipment, will go directly to Aspire.  Lerona says,

I have set a target of £40,000 to go towards the Aspire Housing programme. Their Housing programme provides essential equipment to maintain independence, for those living with spinal cord injuries. The money raised will also go to much needed assisted technology, enabling disabled people to get back their independence and get back to work.
