I don't remember much about my accident but I do remember realising instantly that my life had changed.  I had been in the Spinal Injury Centre for a couple of weeks and was really struggling with my emotions, trying to make sense of it all.  Then Ben came along.  He told me that he was an Aspire Independent Living Advisor and that he could help me with any questions that I had.

If I'm honest, I don't really remember what we talked about half the time.  When you're in rehab you talk to so many different people all day long that it's difficult to process a lot of the information.  I'm pretty sure I fired off lots of questions about what was happening to me, things I should be thinking about and who else I should be talking to.  What I do remember is that Ben had answers for me and he listened.  That was hugely reassuring.

Ben is also spinally injured so I knew that he had an idea of how I was feeling and what I was going through because he had been through it all himself.  I'm really grateful for all the time he gave me, it made a huge difference.
