Starting on Sunday 8th September, the 2019 Ride2Recovery cycling team will be setting off on their fourth cycling challenge, ten years since the first one, this time from Innsbruck to Geneva, a distance of 850km over six days.  The route takes in some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the world as well as some of the steepest mountain passes in Europe, but will be their toughest challenge yet as it involves 20,000m of climbing.

The Ride2Recovery 2019 route

Ride2Recovery founder Nick McClelland says, “We decided to take on a new Ride2Recovery challenge in 2019 because we have realised what a huge impact the event can have for the charities we support. We wanted to ensure the challenge met and surpassed previous efforts so we decided to take on the mighty Italian Alps. With 20,000m of ascent in six days, this is going to be our toughest event yet!

“We continue to proudly support Aspire as we truly believe in the importance of the amazing work in spinal rehabilitation and family support provided through the charity.”

Aspire’s CEO Brian Carlin, who is also taking part, says, “Across the three rides undertaken so far, Ride2Recovery has managed to raise over £350,000 for some great causes (including Aspire), and our ambition with this, the fourth ride, is to reach £500,000 total raised funds. I am very much looking forward to riding with the Ride2Recovery team again. The nicest thing about the amazing people I'm riding with, and the families that are giving up their time so generously as support crew, is that everyone is fully funding their participation in this event.  This means that every single penny donated goes to charity.”

About Ride2Recovery

This is the fourth Ride2Recovery challenge that has been held to support Aspire and other charities.  It was established in 2008 following a brutal knife attack on Oli Hemsley in London, which resulted in him being paralysed.  Ride2Recovery was set up as a way to support Oli, spinal injury charities and “to find a positive focus after the event.”
