Aspire is saddened to learn that Professor Paul Kennedy passed away suddenly yesterday.

Paul Kennedy was the founder and chair of MASCIP (Multidisciplinary Association of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals), which provides a national professional forum to promote standards in clinical practice, foster research and encourage the development of health and social care services for people with spinal cord injuries.

Direct work with Paul Kennedy, over many years, helped to shape the vital services that Aspire now provides to support spinal cord injured people and his passing is a significant loss for the spinal cord injury community.

Paul Kennedy founded the Department of Clinical Psychology at the National Spinal Injuries Centre, Stoke Mandeville Hospital, in 1988, having previously worked in Stanmore.  He was an innovative and pioneering Clinical Psychologist committed to providing excellent patient care and a leader in international psychological research.  Paul combined his role as Trust Head of Clinical Psychology for Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust with his post as Director of the Oxford Doctoral Course in Clinical Psychology.  He was the founding Chair of MASCIP and the European Spinal Psychology Association (ESPA).

Our thoughts are with his family.
