Before my injury, I had retired from a full-time job and was enjoying a good life. I was very active, playing golf, working a small driving job, and traveling all over the world on cruises and tours and I attended football matches regularly.

My injury began with a series of problems with my knee. Despite paying for private care, I never fully recovered. It's still not entirely clear what happened, and my case is still being investigated. The aftermath of the injury was devastating, and I wasn't sure I would survive my time in the hospital. Those were very dark times. Fortunately, I have a fantastic support system of family and friends who visited me, including people I never expected to hear from. I try to stay positive by remembering that there are always people worse off than me.

I first heard about Aspire from a nurse, and it became my only real option. The only alternative was to purchase a bungalow, but that would have been a long and difficult process. Aspire's process was seamless and took the pressure off the entire situation.

For me, the most important priority was accessibility. The property's wooden floors made it easy to get around in my wheelchair, and the kitchen was perfectly designed at the right height.

Moving into the Aspire property was a crucial step towards becoming independent again. When I left the hospital, I had my wife and family to help me, but they weren't going to be there all the time. The bungalow helped me practice getting around and familiarised me with life outside the hospital.
