I’m 52 years old.  My accident happened because my blood pressure was falling and I had a spinal injection that created inflammation down my spine and crushed my spine. I was in shock. It was distressing for my family, especially for my partner.

My life before the accident was very good because I was a part-time DJ and full-time gardener.  DJ'ing was my biggest hobby and passion.

I found out about Aspire when I was at the Spinal Injury Centre in Stanmore.  Adel, Aspire’s Assistive Technologist, would come round and teach me how to use my iPad and MacBook, about music and being very supportive throughout.

The sessions are very good!  I didn’t know much but he showed me how to use a MacBook and iPad for music, Voice Control for writing WhatsApp messages and emails, and a trackball mouse to move around the laptop.  I would be lost without them because of my hands.  Aspire has been very helpful and the staff are great!

Thank you to the Shanly Foundation for renewing their support for Aspire with funding for our work in the South-East. Their continued commitment will enable us to help people with spinal cord injuries to have opportunity, choice and independence.
