I started running two years ago to get fitter and healthier, but it quickly became much more than that; running became my release and has helped my mental health enormously.

I started with parkrun and gradually built up my distance and confidence. What started as a simple goal to get fitter quickly grew into a passion. Over time, my distances increased, and I developed the confidence to take on bigger challenges like marathons.  I ran the Brighton Marathon last year.  It was an incredible experience, even though it was tough but it showed me that I am capable of more than I ever thought possible.

After running my first marathon, I knew I wanted to challenge myself again.  When I heard about the opportunity to run the Original Marathon, I was immediately excited by the history and significance of it. It appealed to me because of the chance to run the original marathon route - just like those who ran it first - really inspired me.

The history behind the Original Marathon makes it feel extra special. It's not just a physical challenge but a mental one too, and I'm excited to test myself.  Being able to run it for charity and give something back made it even more meaningful.

I have been following a structured training programme to get ready for the Original Marathon. Last week, I completed my longest training run of 33km. This training block has been challenging as I’ve mostly trained alone but I’ve stayed disciplined and made sure not to avoid hills so I’m fully prepared. It has required both physical and mental commitment.

It will be my toughest race yet but finishing it will be an incredible achievement and something I will always be proud of.  I’m very grateful to Dean, Aspire Leisure Centre’s Manager, who is also running the Original Marathon, for telling me about this opportunity.

I am running for Aspire because I wanted to use my running to give something positive back to the community and I’ve heard so many great things about Aspire and the work they do. Knowing that the funds raised will help people makes the challenge even more meaningful.

My fundraising is going really well and I have reached my target.  I’ve focused on raising awareness by sharing my journey and training progress. Talking to people about the marathon and the charity has helped encourage support.  Completing the marathon itself will also help inspire further donations.

I don’t personally know anyone with a spinal cord injury but learning about Aspire’s work has shown me how important their support is.  I know the money raised will make a real difference to people with spinal cord injuries.

I just want to say thank you for giving me this opportunity. Running has given me so much, and I’m proud to use it to help others. I hope to make Aspire and everyone who has sponsored me proud.
