Spinal cord injury occurs when there is any damage to the spinal cord that blocks communication between the brain and the body. Depending on where the damage has occurred it will affect different parts of your body. It will be useful for you to know where the damage is and to understand how your body might be affected but, in the very early days after your injury, your spinal cord may still be reacting to the injury and the full extent of the damage may not be obvious.
