We decided to take part in the Coast to Coast challenge to keep us outdoors and active during lockdown, whilst helping to support Aspire.  We are completing the challenge as a family, but we are each aiming to complete the full 192 miles. Our team is myself, my partner, our four-year-old son and ten-week-old daughter.

We are thoroughly enjoying getting out and exploring lots of areas of our hometown we have never seen before.  We have been on several local walks around our hometown of Rothwell, but with the recent relaxing of lockdown, we have managed to drive further afield and explore new parks and lakes.  We try to walk every day and average around an hour, and if their little legs aren't aching too much, we carry on exploring.  My four-year-old Jarvis is doing fantastically well on our walks and is working on making his leg muscles “super strong”.  It is now much later in the walk before the tired legs arrive and we slowly get home.

We are really enjoying going out walking – we love the quality family time, going on adventures and seeing where we can walk to and what we can find on the walks.

The walk each day is something to look forward to, and the fresh air really clears your mind.

We have always liked to go out for walks as a family, but not as much as we do now. Before lockdown we would go out walking and cycling but once lockdown is over, we will definitely plan to continue family walks regularly.

We would really recommend signing up to the Coast to Coast walk as it’s a great opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy time with your family, whilst raising money for an incredible cause.

We haven’t done any fundraising before but have had lots of donations from friends and family, for which we are extremely grateful.  It means a lot to us to raise money for Aspire.

Aspire provides crucial care to those who have been paralysed by a spinal cord injury and they offer so many fantastic facilities for them and their families. During the current pandemic, it is vital that people are helping raise funds to keep up the incredible, high standards of care that Aspire provides.
