Independent Living Advisor Roy I’ve been an Independent Living Advisor for nearly 10 years now. I sustained a spinal cord injury 32 years ago when I was 24. There wasn't that much support or advice like there is now. I wanted to become an Independent Living Advisor because after all the great support I received while being treated myself, I wanted to give something back. I attend the Spinal Injury Centre on a weekly basis, normally a Wednesday, and I speak to as many people and staff as I can talking about all aspects of living with a spinal cord injury such as housing, welfare benefits, care in the community, wheelchairs, driving, adapted vehicles and many more topics. I’m aware of the challenges that spinal cord injured people face and feel perfectly placed to advice and support. I really enjoy being an Independent Living Advisor as it is fulfilling and you can see the benefits of how you’ve supported people as they go through their rehab and afterwards.
