We are a team of eight runners, all colleagues at Experian. Our team was a mixture of first/second time marathon runners and experienced marathon and ultra runners.  A few us ran the London Marathon last year and were fortunate enough to receive places again from our sponsor for this year.  It is an iconic event for a runner and last year the support from the public along the course was amazing!

We are fundraising for the spinal injury charity Aspire because our colleague Anthony Barnes was closely involved with the charity's Accessible Housing Programme.  He was a remarkable individual and dear colleague who endured a life-altering experience when he broke his back in South Africa (which he almost died from). After this harrowing ordeal, Anthony remained a beacon of generosity and kindness and became closely involved with Aspire. We thought we would fundraise for Aspire as a way to pay tribute to Antony's unwavering spirit and deep connection to this cause. It's a fitting way to commemorate his memory and continue his legacy of compassion and giving.

The team has raised over £6,600 so far, including our four day cake sale at our Nottingham headquarters, sponsored by our catering partners Genuine Dining. We also held a bake sale in our London office and have had brilliant support from our colleagues in sponsoring us and helping with the cake sales.

Running the 2024 London Marathon was an unforgettable experience for all of us. As we crossed the finish line, the sense of accomplishment was overwhelming, but what truly made the day special, was the sense of community that enveloped the city. Seeing London come together to support the runners, with cheers from strangers and encouragement from fellow participants, this event was incredibly uplifting.

We couldn't help but smile at some of the runners’ outfits, adding more joy to our day. Moreover, witnessing the incredible fundraising efforts for various charities, was a real highlight. And it was great to have the support from the Aspire team at a challenging point in the race – it provided the extra motivation we needed to keep going.

Training was hard work with so much rain, but it was worth it on the day.  It was a day filled with camaraderie, resilience, and the joy of achieving a shared goal.  We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped fundraise for this great cause, and a huge thank you to everyone who has donated.
