I started running to keep fit but I enjoy the physical challenge and it has become an enjoyable experience.  I haven’t run a marathon before but I’ve run the London Winter Run which is 10k and the Southend-on-Sea half marathon.

I chose to run with Aspire because of the collaboration they have with the Principality of Sealand, organising swims from Sealand to the UK every year. As I am married to Michael of Sealand it seemed the perfect choice!  The original concept for the swim came from Sir Richard Royal who completed the first 7½ swim in a very impressive 3 hours 29 minutes.

Having met several people who work at Aspire and helping raise funds for them at their annual Sports Quiz Dinner and Swim Celebration Dinner, I was impressed with the sheer dedication and energy put into such a great cause. I’m not much of a swimmer myself so I decided to go into training and run the London Marathon to help raise funds.  I have met people with Spinal Cord Injury and realise the importance of the support that Aspire provides. My fundraising is going pretty well so far.  I’ve been asking friends and family to sponsor me and we’ll be announcing it on the Principality of Sealand website and social media channels.

I’m a little bit behind with my training due to the usual winter illness that everyone seems to have had this year but don’t worry! I will be there and I will smash it. I’m very excited to be running the marathon and can’t wait to take up the challenge. It is a dream come true.
