Aspire is delighted to announce that the Aspire Channel Swim will return for its 21st year this October.  The challenge, for which people swim 22 miles in their local pool over 12 weeks to raise money to support people with Spinal Cord Injury, will take place from 5th October to 28th December.

Over the years our swimmers have told us how swimming helps them get fit, stay healthy and improve their wellbeing.  Now, with the government launching its ‘Better Health’ campaign to encourage people to “kick start their health and reduce their risk of serious illness, including Covid-19” there has never been a better time to get back in the pool.

To help guide swimmers through the challenge they will be able to create their own profile on the fully interactive website where they can log their lengths, share updates and download sponsorship forms.  At the end of the challenge all swimmers will receive a certificate and medal, if they’ve raised over £25.

Katy Boyd, Events Manager, says “Although this has been a difficult year for the leisure industry, swimming pools are now starting to re-open so we hope that everyone who wants to take part in this challenge will be able to. The Aspire Channel Swim is a flexible challenge you can adapt to your everyday life. If your local pool is still closed there are many other places to swim and with everyone’s health, fitness and wellbeing being more important than ever this year, grab your goggles and swim hat and find the nearest river, lake or sea to dive into!”

Brian Carlin, Aspire CEO, says “The impact of Covid-19 on charities throughout the UK has been unprecedented and means that Aspire needs your help more than ever to enable us to continue to support people with Spinal Cord Injury.  Whatever amount you are able to raise will help a spinal injured person, many of whom have been particularly vulnerable throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and have needed our support more than ever.  Every four hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury and Aspire is there to help through our accessible housing, assistive technology and advice about welfare benefits, housing and money matters.”
