Today's budget contained very little in terms of good news.  We obviously welcome the announcement of a Green Paper to be published in the Autumn, to bring forward proposals for long term funding of social care in England.  However, whilst welcome, the additional £2 billion social care funding for the next three years is disappointing in light of the Communities and Local Government’s recent call for £1.5 billion in funding to be brought forward from 2019 – 2020 to address the current crisis

The absence in the budget of any investment in accessible housing or any additional funding to support disabled people into work or to address the extra costs of living with a disability, and the perpetuation of the relentless pressure upon local authorities forcing them to slash care packages instead of delivering genuine independent living, must brand the “last Spring Budget,” as a hugely disappointing missed opportunity for disabled people.
