Ten colleagues at Aspire have teamed up to form the Aspire Pterodactyls, taking on the Aspire Channel Swim this autumn to swim 22 miles - the width of the English Channel - over 12 weeks in their local pool to raise funds to support people with Spinal Cord Injury.

Members of the team work across the entire organisation, from the Fundraising, Finance and Services teams at Aspire to managers, lifeguards and reception staff at the Aspire Leisure Centre in Stanmore, the first leisure centre in Europe for both disabled and non-disabled people.

The team have made an impressive start, collectively swimming 22 miles within the first two weeks of the challenge, so are now aiming to swim a further 22 miles ‘back to England.’  When they have completed that challenge, they plan to keep swimming until the challenge ends on 2nd December to see just how far they can swim!  The team have already raised over £1,500 to support people with spinal injuries.

Katy Boyd, who manages the Aspire Channel Swim says, “It’s fantastic to see staff at Aspire teaming up and embracing the challenge in this way.  Every year amazing swimmers all over the UK go to great lengths for Aspire.  Every two hours someone is paralysed by a spinal cord injury and over the past 24 years the Aspire Channel Swim has raised over £7 million to help support those affected.  Anyone can take part in the challenge, regardless of ability and it’s not too late to sign up - whether you're taking on all 22 miles yourself, signing up as a team with your friends and family, or swimming the distance in a swim school, sign up for free today and conquer the Channel with us this year.”
