I am running the London Marathon for Aspire because Philip, a lifelong family friend, sustained a spinal cord injury in a freak accident in January 2019 while he was going about his usual Saturday morning jobs. He fell off a ladder and had severe damage to his spinal cord after a fragment of bone compressed it. Initially diagnosed with a complete injury, it has now been downgraded to incomplete and, through his determination and character, he is continuing to gain movement and achieve more and more.

In 2011 I ran the London Marathon in a time of four hours 37 minutes. Just before Covid hit, my wife and I ran two half marathons. She beat my time by 7 minutes when she ran the London Marathon in 2018 and beat me by two minutes in both half marathons so I am looking for a bit of revenge this year!

Covid affected my training quite badly. On 20th July my wife and I both tested positive and so we had to isolate until the 30th, just before our wedding day on 31st July.  We then went on honeymoon in Cornwall, but since then I have been back on the training and ready to beat my new wife in this year’s marathon!  We are leading up to a very important few weeks, but I know it will be great.

My fundraising has got off to a slow start online and Covid has certainly affected my fundraising as I haven’t been to as many events at which I would have seen a lot of my family and friends.

However, the charity box at work is doing well and I think online will really take off soon as I’ve asked a lot of people and I even mentioned it in my wedding speech!  My wife and I are also having a Marathon party in September to raise money.
