Sam is taking on the London Marathon despite it being a massive challenge and something totally out of his comfort zone. Sam finds trying a new challenge to be rewarding and has previously taken part in half marathons, obstacle races and has even gone six months without alcohol for charity.

Sam enjoys running for leisure and has taken part in a few half marathons. He has done plenty of training, but previous running events he has taken on have been in the autumn, so he is used to training throughout the summer. Therefore, having to get up in the dark and cold has been a challenge for Sam but he says, “Nonetheless, I'm getting a lot of hours in and hoping that my pace will benefit from slightly warmer temperatures in April.”Sam in his Aspire running vestSam in his Aspire running vest

Sam is running for Aspire because he works for Wellspect Healthcare (a medical device company) whose products provide support for people living with long term medical conditions. The products provided by the company he works for support a lot of spinal injured people, which means he has had the opportunity to meet a number of inspirational people with Spinal Cord Injury. Some of his colleagues also have a spinal cord injury and have achieved some incredible feats despite their injuries. Sam says, “These people and the great work that Aspire does are the inspiration for me to run.”

“We’ve got a really great team of people running for Aspire this year, so I wish them all the best with their training and fundraising. If you're going to take part in a Marathon, it might as well be the London Marathon! I'm hoping that being surrounded by the sights of the capital should provide a bit of additional inspiration when the going gets tough. I have enjoyed the opportunity to support a fantastic charity and help to make a real difference in someone's life.”
