The 48 Ride2Recovery cyclists, who rode for six days coast to coast through the Pyrenees in June, have smashed their fundraising target of £125,000.  To date, their total stands at an incredible £141,902.

The gruelling charity cycle challenge saw the cyclists ride 850km, including over 18,000m of climbing, coast to coast through the Pyrenees over a period of 6 days from Sunday 21st June.

Nick McClelland, Ride2Recovery, comments: “When we started organising Ride2Recovery 2015 we had no idea of the support that we would receive and it is overwhelming to have doubled our original target of £70,000. The whole team are delighted that we have been able to raise these much-needed funds for Aspire and to be able to support those with spinal cord injuries. I am extremely grateful to everyone who has supported us, those who donated and of course to all the cyclists for the pain they endured during our incredibly challenging six day ride.”

Brian Carlin, CEO of Aspire, comments: “Every eight hours someone is paralysed by a spinal cord injury; it can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life.  The funds that the Ride2Recovery cyclists have raised over the years have gone towards helping spinal cord injured people move from injury to independence and we are honoured that they took on another challenge for Aspire this year.  The funds they have raised in 2015 are enough to fund Aspire Grants for a whole year.
